Epipremnum Golden
The Epipremnum aureum 'Golden', commonly known as the Golden Pothos or Devil's Ivy, is a popular and visually striking houseplant noted for its heart-shaped, glossy leaves that feature splashes of gold, yellow, or white. It's a highly versatile and low-maintenance plant, making it perfect for both beginners and experienced plant enthusiasts.
Here's how to care for your Golden Pothos:
- Light: Thrives in medium to low indirect light but can adapt to a wide range of lighting conditions, including artificial light. Avoid direct sunlight, as it can scorch the leaves.
- Water: Water when the top inch of soil becomes dry. Golden Pothos prefers the soil to dry out slightly between waterings. Overwatering can lead to root rot.
- Humidity: Tolerates average home humidity but appreciates higher humidity levels. Consider misting the plant regularly or placing it in a more humid room, like a bathroom, if possible.
- Soil: Use a well-draining potting mix. A mixture of potting soil, perlite, and peat moss is ideal.
- Temperature: Prefers temperatures between 60°F and 85°F (15°C to 29°C). Avoid exposure to temperatures below 50°F (10°C), as cold can damage the plant.
- Fertilisation: Feed with a balanced, water-soluble houseplant fertiliser every 4-6 weeks during the growing season (spring and summer). Reduce feeding in fall and winter to allow the plant to rest.
- Repotting: Repot every 1-2 years or when the plant becomes root-bound. Choose a pot that is 1-2 inches larger in diameter than the current pot.
- Pruning: Trim back long vines to encourage bushier growth and to maintain the desired shape and size. Pruning can be done at any time of the year.
- Pest Management: Inspect regularly for common pests such as spider mites, mealybugs, and scale. Treat any infestations with insecticidal soap or neem oil.
- Pets: This plant is not safe for pets.
The Epipremnum aureum 'Golden' is not only a beautiful addition to any indoor space but also known for its air-purifying qualities, capable of removing certain toxins from the environment. Its easy care and adaptability to various indoor conditions make it an excellent choice for both homes and offices.
